KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women's soccer team opened ASUN Conference play in successful fashion, defeating Liberty, 2-0, in both team's conference opener Friday at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.

The win improved the Owls to 8-2-1 overall, 1-0 in ASUN play, and 5-0-1 at home. With Friday's win, KSU equaled its victory total from a year ago and recorded its sixth shutout in 2018.

HOW IT HAPPENED
» Freshman Jenna Vollrath notched her team-leading fourth goal of the season, scoring off a deflection that hit off the crossbar following a shot by Isabella Contreras at the 21:13 mark, giving the Owls a 1-0 lead.
» KSU secured the victory when Kendall Higgs drilled a shot into an open goal at the 88:18 mark.

COACH SPEAK
"I was just really pleased with our team's composure tonight and the way it regrouped from the Mercer game," head coach Benji Walton. "We were much more composed and patient in keeping the ball and a little cleaner. It is always good to get three points in conference and now it is time to carry the momentum of this win into Sunday when we play a good North Alabama team."

NOTES
» The 8-2-1 start by the Owls marks their best since moving to the Division I level in 2005. Kennesaw State began the 2003 campaign 8-0 en route to a 25-1-0 record and the NCAA Division II national championship. The eight wins also equal KSU's win total from a season ago when it finished 8-7-4.
» The Owls improved to 5-0-1 at home this season and 6-0-2 in their last eight matches at Fifth Third Bank Stadium dating back to 2017.
» Kennesaw State won its ASUN Conference opener for the first time since 2013 when it defeated Lipscomb 2-0 at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
