TROY, Ala. – Two early strikes set the tone and sparked the Kennesaw State women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Troy Friday night.

The Owls tallied two goals in the first 10 minutes, and received solid play from goalkeeper Tiffany Sornpao to improve to 3-0 for the first time since transitioning to NCAA Division I in 2005. Kennesaw State's best start to a season came in its inaugural year of 2002 when it won its first 18 match and finished the season 18-0-1 while competing at the NCAA Division II level.

How it Happened
»  Kendall Higgs put the Owls on top at the 5:50 mark after receiving a cross from Erin Harris and finding the back of the net.
» The Owls struck again three minutes later when Harris intercepted a pass in the penalty box and scored to put KSU ahead 2-0.
» Troy got on the scoreboard in the 14th minute when Claire Taylor scored to cut the Owls' lead in half.
» KSU's final goal came in the 72nd minute when Kameron Downs lofted a shot from the left wing that floated over the goalkeeper's head and into the back of the net.

Coach Speak
"Tonight was a very tough win for our ladies," head coach Benji Walton said. "When you go on the road and play such a physically strong and organized team like Troy, it takes a full team effort. I thought our players did an excellent job of adjusting to their style and playing calm in a tough environment.

"It was a huge help to get two early goals that allowed us to calm things down a bit and play composed," Walton added. "I am extremely proud of the team as a whole."

Notes
» With goals by Kendall Higgs, Erin Harris and Kameron Downs, the Owls' seven goals this season have come from seven different players.
» Kennesaw State has scored three goals in two of its three matches this season.
» Redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper Tiffany Sornpao totaled a season-high five goals.
