THE STORYLINE:
· Kennesaw State suffered a tough 13-12 home loss to Saint Francis in overtime at Fifth Third Bank Stadium on Sunday, March 4.
Siena Gore led the team with five goals, eight draw controls and five caused turnovers.
Midway through the second half, KSU got goals from
Taylor Catts,
Abby Squires and
Marissa Gore to take a 12-11 lead, but couldn't add to it. The score remained tied for the final 14:22 of the game into overtime until the Red Flashes found the back of the net to win the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
· Kennesaw State got off to a great start leading 4-1 in the first five minutes of the game behind two goals each from Gore and
Izzy Palermo.
· Saint Francis chipped away at the lead, but the Owls held a three-goal lead up 8-5 with 12:11 in the first half.
· After that, Saint Francis really cracked down on defense holding the Owls to only one more goal in the first half and evening the score up at 9 into the break.
· Goals were much tougher to come by in the second half for both teams. After Saint Francis went up 11-9, the Owls responded with three straight goals going up 12-11.
· Unfortunately, KSU couldn't find the back of the net again. Neither team scored over the final 14:22 of the game pushing the game to overtime.
· Saint Francis scored 2:25 in the sudden death overtime to get the victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
· S. Gore scored five goals bringing her season total to 21 on the season. She set a career high with five caused turnovers. The eight draw controls she won matches a career high.
· Senior
Laura Jordan scooped up four ground balls and caused two turnovers on the defensive end.
· Palermo was second on the team with two goals and picked up two ground balls.
· M. Gore had three points on the day with a goal and two assists.
· Kennesaw State held Saint Francis to 0-6 on their free-position attempts on the afternoon.
· This is the third overtime game in Kennesaw State history.
UP NEXT
Kennesaw State will be at home hosting Winthrop on Saturday, March 10 for a 3 p.m. start at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
