LAX: Owls Comeback Attempt Comes Up Short Against Winthrop

Owls Score Finish the Game on a 5-1 Run

THE STORYLINE: 
· Kennesaw State dropped its home contest against Winthrop 19-15 on Saturday, March 10 at Fifth Third Bank Stadium on a rainy day.
 
Siena Gore led the Owls with five goals and won 10 draw controls, but the Eagles used a big second half with 11 goals to secure the road victory.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: 
· Kennesaw State jumped out on Winthrop and led 2-0 after Gore and Haley Swift scored in the first five minutes.
· The Owls took another two-goal lead up 7-5 when Izzy Palermo cashed in on a free-position attempt after finagling her way to the net.
· The rest of the half was all Winthrop as they came out and ended the half on a 3-0 run to take an 8-7 lead into the break. The Eagles extended that run to 5-0 early in the second half to go up 10-7.
· Stretching back to the first half, Winthrop went on a 9-1 run to go up 14-8.
· Kennesaw State tried to chip away at the lead and finished the game on a 5-1 run, but couldn't recover from the Eagles run in the middle of the game.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 
· Siena Gore once again led the Owls with five goals, 10 draw controls and six ground balls. The 10 draw controls is career high for the freshman.
· After missing a couple of games, Haley Swift was back in action and scored one goal.
· Emily Napierala and Anna Giulitto gave the team a lift off the bench as both players scored two goals each. Giulitto finished the game with three points as she had an assist as well.
 
UP NEXT
Kennesaw State will be at home in Fifth Third Bank Stadium to take on Quinnipiac on Wednesday, March 14. First draw is at 2 p.m.
