SOC: Owls Roll to 2-0 Win Over Stetson For Third Straight

DELAND, Fla. – Setting an early tone, the Kennesaw State women's soccer team scored a quick goal and applied constant pressure throughout the match en route to a 2-0 victory over Stetson Thursday in DeLand, Fla.
 
The win kept the Owls (11-3-1, 4-1-0) tied with NJIT atop the ASUN Conference standings with 12 points. The Highlanders upset Florida Gulf Coast, 1-0, Thursday in Newark, N.J.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
» Fans had barely settled into their seats before the Owls produced a quick strike when Erin Harris made a nice run along the right side then served a ball into Jenna Vollrath who scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season at the 2:01 mark.  
» Kendall Higgs added to KSU's lead, scoring in the 34th minute after receiving a cross from Isabella Contreras and left-footing one into the goal for a 2-0 lead.
» Kennesaw State posted a 15-11 shot advantage and had seven shots on goal.

COACH SPEAK
"I am very pleased with the overall team effort," head coach Benji Walton said. "The ladies were as motivated as I have seen them, and it showed in our play tonight.
 
"We've put ourselves in a good position and now turn our focus to a big game against FGCU on Sunday," Walton added. "I hope Owl Nation will come out and support our players. It should be a fun game and we're looking forward to a great atmosphere."

NOTES
» With 11 victories on the season, Kennesaw State has reached its highest win total since posting an 11-7-0 record in 2009.
» The Owls are 4-1 in ASUN Conference play for the first time since 2007 when they began league play 7-0 before finishing the season 10-1-0.
» Entering the match tied for ninth in the country with seven shutouts, sophomore goalkeeper Tiffany Sornpao added to that total, recording her eighth of the season while establishing a single-season career high. Sornpao ranks third in KSU history with 15 career clean sheets.

Kennesaw State is back in action on Sunday when it hosts defending ASUN Conference champion Florida Gulf Coast at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. Kickoff is 1 p.m.
