KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women's soccer team closed out the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 2-0 setback to Furman Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
 
After a scoreless first half, the Paladins (4-2-1) got two goals from senior forward Molly Dwyer to record the victory over the Owls (5-3-2).
 
THE DECISIVE GOAL
Furman broke the scoreless deadlock, scoring following a free kick as Dwyer headed in the game-clincher in the 58th minute. Dwyer found the back of the net again in the 81st minute, scoring from inside the box.

QUOTING THE COACH
"We had trouble getting a hold of the ball as Furman did a better job of winning the 50-50 balls at midfield and made it tough for us to get a rhythm going," head coach Benji Walton said. "I thought in the second half we did a much better job with the 50-50 balls, but needed to be a little more composed when we had our chances. We'll just keep working and try to learn from it."
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Furman outshot Kennesaw State, 15-9, and held a 10-1 advantage in shots on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Tiffany Sornpao had another solid outing in goal as she recorded eight saves.
 
 WALTON ON OPENING ASUN CONFERENCE PLAY
"We have to regroup. Obviously, when you lose two games you're going to be down a little bit," Walton said. "I told the girls these are good lessons for us going into conference. USC Upstate is on the upswing and they're doing really well, so we have to be ready and hopefully we'll get off on the right foot."

NEXT UP
Kennesaw State is next in action on Friday (Sept. 22) when it hosts USC Upstate in both teams' ASUN Conference opener. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
