MACON, Ga. – Kennesaw State dropped a road contest to Mercer on Thursday, December 28 in Hawkins Arena.
After the Owls trailed 38-31 at the break, Mercer caught fire in the second half stretching their lead out and going on to win 89-56.
James Scott led KSU with 18 points.
Kosta Jankovic was the other player in double figures with 11 points.
Kennesaw State battled foul trouble for much of the first half, but Scott kept KSU close scoring 14 of his 18 points in the first 20 minutes.
Kyle Clarke hit two free throws to tie the score at 20 with 8:05 remaining in the first frame.
Mercer pushed their lead to as much as 11, but Kennesaw State hung around and kept the game close trailing 38-31 at half.
The Bears came out hot in the second half stretching their lead to double-digits. The Owls answered making four of their first five shots as well, but couldn't keep pace as the Bears used an 8-0 run to take a 56-40 lead forcing the Owls to use a timeout.
The Owls couldn't bring themselves back into the game one more time as Mercer stayed hot shooting 72 percent in the second half from the floor.
Now, KSU will return home where they have won two out of their last three games to face Yale on Saturday, December 30 at 4 p.m.
