Kennesaw State puts its four-game winning streak on the line Saturday night when it heads to Liberty for the Big South Conference opener. The game at Williams Stadium can be seen on ESPN3 or heard on ESPN Radio 1230 and 106.3 The Fan 2. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.

FIRST & 10
  1. Riding a four-game winning streak, Kennesaw State heads to Liberty Saturday night for the Big South opener for both teams. The Owls are looking to win their conference opener for the second time in the program's three seasons.
  2. The Owls were picked as co-favorites in the Big South preseason poll, while the Flames were not eligible for preseason poll due to their transition to the FBS.
  3. KSU defeated Texas Southern 48-3 last Saturday at Fifth Third Bank Stadium, extending the Owls' winning streak to four games, which ties the program's longest winning streak. Kennesaw State had two such four-game streaks in 2016.
  4. Kennesaw State enters Saturday's game leading the Big South Conference in scoring defense (18.6), total defense (288.8 ypg), rushing defense (64.0 ypg) and turnover margin (+8). The Owls are the nation's sixth-best team against the run.
  5. Forcing 15 takeaways this season, Kennesaw State has the third-most takeaways in the FCS and is tied for second with 11 interceptions. The opportunistic Owls own a 44-point margin (54-10) in points-off-turnover scoring through five games.
  6. The Owls are averaging 301.2 rushing yards per game, which ranks fourth in the nation. KSU is third in the Big South in points per game (31.2), second in total offense (440.0 ypg), first in yards per rush (5.8), rush attempts (262) and second in rushing TDs (15).
  7. Kennesaw State has been a strong first-half sqaud his season, outscoring the opposition 106-33 in the first 30 minutes. The team is out-gaining the opponents by a 1,290-705 first-half margin. KSU holds an impressive 16-3 record all-time when leading at the half.
  8. Junior RB Trey Chivers has scored a touchdown in four consecutive games -- rushing scores versus Tennessee Tech, Alabama State, and Texas Southern, and a 26-yard reception versus North Greenville. The Owls are 7-0 when Chivers scores a touchdown.
  9. Junior QB Chandler Burks recorded his third career game with three rushing touchdowns last Saturday. He became the first QB in Big South history to record back-to-back games with three rushing scores. The program's first-ever verbal commitment, Burks has 14 career rushing TDs and 16 career passing touchdowns.
  10. Redshirt freshman LB Bryson Armstrong recorded his third interception of the season last Saturday. He and teammate Keon Roman (4) have accounted for seven of the team's 11 interceptions and rank 12th and third, respectively, in the nation in interceptions per game. Armstrong also leads the team in tackles (47), sacks (6.0), pass breakups (3), fumble recoveries (2) and has one of the team's two blocked kicks this season.
A WIN VS LIBERTY…
  • Hand the Owls their first-ever five-game winning streak in program history.
  • Improve KSU's record to 6-6 in conference games all-time.
  • Give Kennesaw State its first victory over Liberty.
  • Improve the Owls' record to 2-1 away from Fifth Third Bank Stadium in 2017.
  • Improve KSU's record to 6-5 all-time for night games (after 6 p.m.).

KENNESAW STATE VS. LIBERTY -- THE SERIES
  • Kennesaw State enters Saturday's showdown against Liberty with a 0-2 record all-time.
  • The Owls trekked to Lynchburg in their inaugural season (2015), dropping a hard-fought 45-35 final.
  • Two-time All-Big South Conference QB Josh Woodrum threw four touchdown passes to lead the then-defending conference champions past the Owls in the first matchup.
  • Owls' QB Trey White rushed for three scored and threw for another, while Jake McKenzie tossed a 6-yard touchdown pass to Xavier Harper. McKenzie and Harper are still Owls, while White graduated after last season.
  • In 2016, Kennesaw State welcomed the Flames to The Nest as Chaston Bennett recorded a school-record 241 all-purpose yards and scored a pair of touchdowns, but it wasn't enough in a 36-21 decision.
  • Then-sophomore QB Chandler Burks carried a game-high 28 times for 98 yards and a touchdown. He also completed 11-of-19 passes for 141 yards and a scored.
  • Junior WR Xavier Harper pulled down five catches for 88 yards in last year's game.
