THE STORYLINE:
· Kennesaw State suffered a loss at the hands of the Jacksonville Dolphins in four sets on Friday, October 6 in UNF Arena.
After falling down two sets to zero, the Owls couldn't climb all the way back in the match after taking the third set out of the break.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Jacksonville came out hot in the opening set and took control immediately going up 5-1. After the Owls pulled them back a little bit, the Dolphins went up 15-9 forcing KSU to use a timeout.
The Owls got within three, but couldn't overcome the deficit and JU won the first set.
In the middle of the second set it was all tied up at 11 and JU went on a 5-1 run to grab the advantage. The Owls got within one at 23-22, but Jacksonville won the final two points to go up 2-0 in the match.
Kennesaw State went on the offensive early in the third winning the first five points of the set. The Dolphins tried to get back in the set, but the Owls kept their foot on the gas closing out the set 25-22.
Looking to close the match out, Jacksonville used a 5-1 run in the middle of the fourth set to go up 17-12. The Owls tried to get back into it, but JU was too strong on their home floor closing out the match 3-1 to stay undefeated in ASUN play.
SCHUNZEL QUOTE
"JU outplayed us, out competed us and out coached us in every facet of that game, so credit to them for being so prepared and executing the way they did.
It was well into the second set before we became truly ready to play at the level needed to give ourselves a chance to win on the road in conference. Once they got up 2-0 it was a steep hill to climb with how well they played today.
We better learn from this game, because this is life on the road in a good league. If you don't show up 100 percent mentally and physically you'll get beat."
