FB: Akebren Ralls Named Defensive Player of the Week

KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State junior DB Akebren Ralls garnered Big South Defensive Player of the Week honors following an impressive performance during a 17-3 victory over Gardner-Webb Saturday evening, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.

Ralls, a Forsyth, Ga., native, recorded a career-high two interceptions in key moments throughout Saturday night. Ralls' first interception came late in the first half when GWU threatened to cut into a 17-0 lead, picking off Gardner-Webb's Tyrell Maxwell pass near the goal line. Then, with GWU threatening in the fourth quarter to pull within a single score, Ralls' second interception came at the two-yard line to keep the Runnin' Bulldogs from scoring once again. His two touchdown-saving interceptions, two pass breakups and a tackle helped a secondary hold Gardner-Webb to just 114 passing yards on the night.

The Owls (6-1, 2-0) enter Saturday with a program-best six-game winning streak and remains in Big South action against Presbyterian for a conference clash at Bailey Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and can be seen on College Football Down South or heard on ESPN Radio 1230 and 106.3 The Fan 2.

Fifth Third Bank Stadium, the signature athletics landmark on the Kennesaw State University campus, is a world-class facility that has been recognized as one of the premier multi-use outdoor athletics venues in the country. In the fall of 2015, it become the official home of Owls football team and is home to Owls soccer and lacrosse as well.
