FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Kennesaw State women's soccer team was unable to overcome an early 2-0 deficit and fell 3-0 to defending ASUN Conference champion Florida Gulf Coast Sunday afternoon in Fort Myers, Fla.

The loss dropped the Owls to 5-5-3 on the season and 0-2-1 in ASUN Conference play. The Eagles improved to 8-2-1 overall and 1-0-1 in conference action.

QUICK STRIKES
The Eagles took control early, scoring twice in the first 13 minutes to take a 2-0 lead. Marjorie Boilesen put FGCU on the board, finding the back of the net at the 10:40 mark. Varin Ness made it 2-0 with a goal in the 13th minute, and Nikki Hudson capped the scoring with a goal in the 29th minute to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead.

QUOTING THE COACH
"I'm disappointed in our team's effort in the first half today. We didn't play Kennesaw State soccer and that's unacceptable," head coach Benji Walton said. "FGCU is a very good team and they did what good teams do when you lack effort, they punish you.

"This is a big learning moment for our team. We have a standard of effort that we expect from each other every time we take the field and today we lost sight of that," Walton added. "This week we are going to work tirelessly to get back to the standard that is required of us when we wear the black and gold."

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Florida Gulf Coast finished the match with a 12-7 shot advantage, including a 5-4 edge in shots on goal. The Eagles, who came into the day with the conference's top defense, limited the Owls to one shot in the second half. Freshmen Lauren Berounsky and Kameron Downs led KSU with two shots apiece.
