Kennesaw State Team Notes
•With the win last Friday night over Lipscomb, KSU moved its record to 7-4 in ASUN Conference opening matches. The Owls have won three five set conference opening matches in a row and are 4-0 overall when the first match of conference season goes to five sets.
• With the conference opening win last Friday, the Owls are on a six game winning streak for just the third time in school history. The longest win streak in school history came back in 2010 when the team won eight straight matches from October 8 and November 6. The 2015 team began the season 6-0 before falling in their seventh match of the season.
• Senior
Kelly Marcinek hit a career mark on Friday against Lipscomb reaching the 1,000 career kill mark on her fourth kill of the match. She is the second player in Kennesaw State history to reach the mile stone.
•
Anaiah Boyer claimed another weekly award, but this time it's her first career ASUN Player of the Week. She had a match high with 17 kills and picked up her sixth double-double of the season with 15 digs. Boyer also had five blocks. It's the second weekly award she has won in a row as she won ASUN Defensive Player of the Week last week.
• Boyer is third in the ASUN averaging 2.98 kills per set with 173 for the year.
• The Owls had three players earn double-doubles for the first time since 2014 in their win over Lipscomb last Friday. Dating back to 2011 that has happened twice for Kennesaw State as three players had double-doubles against Georgia in 2014 and Charlotte in 2011.
•
Kristi Piedimonte is second in the ASUN averaging 10.05 assists per set. Against Jacksonville State earlier in the season, Piedimonte set a new career high with 58 assists in four sets. This season, she has had five matches where she has averaged at least 12.0 assists per set.
•
Katarina Morton has been the defensive anchor for the Owls as she has 311 digs this season. Her average of 5.36 per set is 10th in the country and leads the ASUN. She has 20-plus digs in nine of the 15 matches this season and has eclipsed the 30-dig mark once.
•
Liesl Engelbrecht has become a key for the Owls on offense and defense during her sophomore season. She is currently third in the ASUN hitting .307 and is second on the team with 120 kills. On the defensive end, Engelbrecht leads the team with 45.0 blocks averaging .79 per set.
