Atlantic Sun Release
KENNESAW, Ga. - The men's track and field team has received a trio of postseason awards after winning their fourth straight Atlantic Sun Outdoor Championship team title over the weekend the conference announced Thursday.
Director of Track and Field
Andy Eggerth has been named ASUN Coach of the Year for the fourth consecutive year while
Andre Dorsey was named the most outstanding field athlete and
Sean Blassingame was named most outstanding track athlete for their performances at the conference championships.
"I am so proud of our kids for their effort and work put in this year," Eggerth said. They are the complete package. Preparing for careers, serving the community handling business in the classroom, and all the while winning championships athletically."
Dorsey, the senior All-American, won the long jump, javelin, triple jump, and grabbed a pair of second place finishes in the high jump and shot put at the outdoor championships. Dorsey's best performance came in the long jump where he jumped 7.72m (25'4.00) more than a foot longer then the second place competitor. He collected 46 of his 48.5 points during the field events of the championships.
"Andre goes down as the most successful athlete in conference history. He has scored over 290 points at ASUN Championships. On five occasions, he has single-handedly scored more than entire teams. Andre is a once in a lifetime type of guy and it's been a fun ride," Eggerth said.
Blassingame, collected four gold medals in the 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay. He also collected a bronze medal in the long jump. His best performance was in the 200m where he ran a career best time of 21.52 to win the race by .47 seconds. That time was the fastest time for that event in the ASUN this season.
"Sean is developing nicely. It is fun to watching him develop as an athlete, but more so as a person and as a student. The stars are the limit for Sean," Eggerth said.
Dorsey and seven of his teammates will compete at the 2016 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Championships at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida.
