Live ScoringKANNAPOLIS, N.C. – Sparked by a second-round 2-under par 69 by junior
Christopher Guglielmo, the Kennesaw State men's golf team finished the opening day of The Cabarrus County Irish Creek Collegiate with a 36-hole total of 1-under par 567 and sits in first place.
The Owls carded rounds of 284-283 and hold a one-shot advantage over No. 14 Wake Forest (568) at the par-71, 7,099-yard The Club at Irish Creek. The 16-team field includes five teams currently ranked in Golfstat's Top 50.
"Our play today was a direct result of staying patient and making the correct decisions for the entire 36 holes," head coach
Bryant Odom said. "I am extremely proud of the effort today and tomorrow will be a fun and successful round if we continue to be decisive, patient and stick to our game plan. We are putting everything together at the right time of the year."
Led by Guglielmo, who posted rounds of 71-69 for a 2-under par 140 and is tied for fifth, all five Kennesaw State players are in the top 20. Sophomores
Wyatt Larkin (70-72 – 142) and
Fredrik Nilehn (72-72 – 144) are tied for ninth and 17th, respectively, while junior
Teremoana Beaucousin (71-75 – 146) and freshman
Jake Fendt (76-70 – 146) are tied for 20th.
The Owls were the lone team to finish day one under par. The Demon Deacons concluded play at even-par (568).
Freshman
Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres (150, +8), who is competing as an individual, is tied for 46th, following rounds of 77-73.
James Madison's Ryan Cole is the individual leader after carding rounds of 67-70 for a 4-under par total of 137, and holds a two-shot lead over a group of three players tied for second at 2-under par 139.
Final-round action is slated for Sunday (April 10) with the Kennesaw State grouped with Wake Forest and Virginia Commonwealth. A shotgun start is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. (ET) with the Owls, Demon Deacons and Rams teeing off on holes 1 through 3. Live scoring will be available at
