THE STORYLINE:Â
· Kennesaw State controlled much of the game, but when things got tied up at eight, the Owls responded with a 5-1 run to finish off the game 13-9 on a lovely night at Fifth Third Bank Stadium on Friday, April 22.
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
· The first half was back and forth as the largest lead was only two goals for the Owls at 3-1.
· Central Michigan had two one-goal leads in the first half, but neither lasted very long as KSU bounced back very quickly after being down with goals from
Olivia Hokanson and
Haley Swift.
· After taking a one-goal lead into halftime, the Owls stayed up on the Chippewas for the first 13 minutes of the second half, until the score was tied up at eight with 16:42 remaining in the game.
· Four minutes later,
Emily Hallberg sparked the 5-1 run for the Owls after making a free-position shot to break the tie.
· Over the final five minutes,
Elaine Bradley came up with two big saves and that forced Central Michigan to go to a high pressure defense to force turnovers. The Owls stayed composed and ended up netting two more goals before running out the final 1:30 on the clock to preserve win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:Â
·This win marks the fifth of the season and third in A-Sun play. The five wins matches a program high set last season and the three wins in conference play is the most the Owls have ever had.
·
Olivia Hokanson continued to score at a high level against Central Michigan leading the Owls with four on the day.
· Two other Kennesaw State players came up big on the offensive end as
Shannon Moore and
Taylor McGhee both notched hat-tricks as well.
· This is the third time this season that KSU had held an opponent under 10 goals. It was also the fifth time in program history that the Owls have held their opponents in single digits.
