Event Wins Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Andy Eggerth's Thoughts on the Meet"Jordan gray is our women's athlete of the meet. With about three practices and her second competition now she pole vaulted a best of 10'6" (3.20m). This ranks her top-six in the conference.
This was after throwing the javelin and shot put at the same time and throwing a PR 12.55m in the shot put which advanced her to the final. What's impressive about that is that she's a 150lb heptathlete in their scrapping with those who specialize in the throws.
For her fourth event, she tied for the best mark in the long jump then ran to the start line of the 100m hurdles and posted over a half second lifetime best 14.64 to finish top-10, with no warm up for the hurdles.
Event six, brought her directly to the hammer throw where she performed well but was short of the required measurement.
Quickly switching to her high jump spikes she had a great performance clearing a lifetime best 1.69m, again tying for the best mark of the competition. She jumped even better getting her whole body over 1.74m which would rank 1st in the conference, but didn't time it up right and caught her heels, pulling the bar off.
After this she got a few minutes of rest before heading to her 8th event, the discus. She was short of the minimum measurement but with only a handful of practices at the discus she's learning and putting things together rapidly.
Sean Blassingame is our men's athlete of the meet with a conference lead in the 100m and a big PR 10.84. He also set a PR in the 200m with another conference leading 21.60. But he started it all off with a PR of 7.22m in the long jump for the win! After 3 personal records on the day he ran a leg of the 4x400m relay.
I'm particularly proud of our women's 4x400m relay. It can be easy after multiple events to go through the motions and not hurt on the 4x4, but our women put it out there. Not feeling well, Di led off with a 58.3 split. Dollitia was 2nd leg moving us from 4th to 2nd in the race with a 55.3 split. Jocselyn ran the 3rd leg maintaining position with a 56.9 split, and LaToya brought home the win with a 56.4 split."
