OPELIKA, Ala. –  Junior Christopher Guglielmo and sophomore Fredrik Nilehn each produced top 20 finishes to help the Kennesaw State men's golf team tie for fourth place at the Tiger Invitational that concluded Tuesday (Mar. 8) at the par-72, 7,149-yard Grand National Lake Course in Opelika, Ala.
 
The Owls produced a final-round 8-over par 296 to conclude the 54-hole event at 15-over par 879. Kennesaw State tied the Auburn "B" team and finished 17 shots behind Troy, which overtook host and No. 5 Auburn to capture the 18-team tournament.
 
Troy posted the low round of the day on Tuesday, recording a 5-under par 862 to finish at 2-under par 862 and three shots ahead of the host Tigers. UNC Greensboro placed third with a 14-over par 878, one shot ahead of Kennesaw State.
 
"Although we lost some ground today on the back nine, we can walk away with our heads high," head coach Bryant Odom said. "Coming into this event, we wanted to contend with the leaders and No. 5 Auburn on its home course. We did that for a majority of the tournament."
 
Guglielmo shot a closing-round even-par 72 and Nilehn registered a 4-over par 76 to finish at 3-over par 219, six shots behind UNC Greensboro teammates Taylor Coalson and Jake McGlone, who tied for individual medalist honors at 3-under par 213.
 
Freshmen Buster Bruton (224, +8) and Jake Fendt (225, +9) tied for 31st and 38th, respectively, while Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres (227, +11) tied for 45th.
 
"We've made some nice improvements in our play since the beginning of the fall, and it's easy to see everything moving in the right direction as we prepare for some of the bigger events of the spring," Odom said.
 
Kennesaw State will have a quick turnaround before it returns to competition as the Owls will open play at Southern Intercollegiate hosted by Georgia at Athens Country Club on Monday (Mar. 14).
