Season Statistics KENNESAW, Ga.. — The Kennesaw State men's tennis team claimed Sunday's doubles point, but visiting Louisiana rallied for a 4-2 victory in a tightly-contested match at the Siegel Student Center Courts on the KSU campus.
The Owls (8-3) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after posting the doubles point in dramatic fashion. The visitors drew first blood by winning the No. 3 doubles match 6-3, but KSU's No. 1 pairing of
David Durham and
Drew Wendel evened things with a 6-3 victory.
It all came down to the Owls' No. 2 tandem of
Simon Pritchard and
Jorge Wilton, who pulled even at 6-6 versus Coleman Wahlborg and Vlad Kramarov and then won convincingly 7-1 in the tiebreaker to stake claim on the all important doubles point.
Trailing 1-0, the visitors rallied as Edgar Lopez nailed down a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Pritchard in No. 1 singles. KSU took the lead back at 2-1 as
Lucas de Torres Curth took down Will Huyton in straight sets (6-1, 6-2).
But the Ragin' Cajuns (11-7) won the next three matches to secure the victory. In No. 5 singles, KSU's Wendel won the first set 6-4, but Perez rallied with victories of 6-4, 6-4 to pull ULL even at 2-2.
KSU's Durham dropped a back-and-forth three-setter to Arthur Libaud (6-7, 6-3, 6-1) in No. 2 singles, and ULL clinched the match as Kramarov defeated
Alejandro Valencia (7-5, 7-6).
Rincon Quotes"Definitely a tough one today. I like the way we came out and took the doubles point from a really good team. But we failed to capitalize on some opportunities we had in singles. We were up a set in a couple of matches, and we have to finish those. Overall I'm proud of the way we competed and I like the way the program is moving forward."
Up NextThe Owls are back in action Wednesday, March 16 when they host in-state rival Georgia Southern at 12 p.m.
