Tee TimesLihu'e, Kaua'I – Kennesaw State opened its spring schedule on Wednesday (Feb. 17) and turned in a solid first round, carding a 5-over par 293 and is in seventh place at the 16-team John A. Burns Intercollegiate that is being contested at the par-72, 6,991-yard Wailua Golf Course in Lihu'e, Kaua'I.
Eighth-ranked Texas is currently first in a field that includes six teams ranked in Golfstat's Top 50. The Longhorns posted a 12-under par 276 and hold a 12-shot advantage over No. 17 California (288). Washington State and Arizona are tied for third at 2-over par 290, while host Hawaii (291) and No. 42 Texas A&M are fifth and sixth, respectively.
"Overall, I'm very pleased with our start to the tournament," head coach
Bryant Odom said. "The guys were patient and focused in the high winds today, and didn't show any signs of off-season rust. The biggest area where we can improve over the next few days is on the greens, and that's where our post-round practice will take place."
Sophomore
Fredrik Nilehn led Kennesaw State, shooting an even-par 72 and is among a group of 10 players, tied for 16th. Freshman
Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres is one shot behind Nilehn and tied for 26th after opening with a 1-over par 72. Freshman
Jake Fendt and sophomore
Wyatt Larkin are tied for 34th following 2-over par rounds of 74, and junior
Teremoana Beaucousin is tied for 54th after shooting 76.
Texas' Beau Hossler, who is ranked third in the Golfstat individual rankings, holds the first-round lead after posting a 5-under par 67 and has a two shot lead over three players, including Longhorn teammates Gavin Hall and Scottie Scheffler.
