KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State picked up its second win in five days against USC Upstate for the season sweep on Monday, February 1 in the KSU Convocation Center.

The Owls outscored the Spartans by 12 in the second half to win the game 75-62. Yonel Brown was the leading scorer with 22 points and he pulled down seven rebounds.

KSU pushed out to an early 9-2 lead and held that lead for much of the first half until USC Upstate made a late run and eventually took the lead. The Spartans 26-25 lead didn't last long as Bernard Morena made two free throws put the Owls back up 27-26 at halftime.

Kennesaw State came out of the locker room and immediately pushed its lead back to nine after a Kendrick Ray three pointer.

With the Spartans trying to hang around for a late run in the game, KSU assisted on five straight field goals to take a 69-50 lead with 4:34 remaining and ending the Spartan's hopes of making a late comeback to get in the game.

The win moves Kennesaw State in a three-way tie at 3-5 in A-Sun conference play.

Now, KSU will make its first trip to Newark, N.J. to face NJIT on Saturday, February 6 at 4:00 p.m.

On the Defensive Effort against USC Upstate
"It's probably the most energy we've played with on the defensive end. Even though there shooting percentage doesn't indicate that we played good defense, it really was a good effort. We contested shots and didn't give them any easy looks. Guys really hustled and it helped our rebounding. That was a big key for us. Upstate is a very fine rebounding team, particularly on the offensive boards and because of our hard work, it limited them and took those opportunities away. Overall, I was very pleased with the effort and the hustle that we gave for the 40 minutes."
