DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Kennesaw State men's basketball team lost a tough game on the road to Bethune-Cookman 75-72 at the Ocean Center on Wednesday, November 16.
Kendrick Ray and
Tyler Hooker both had looks to tie, but couldn't get the ball to fall to force overtime as KSU moved to 1-2 on the season.
The Owls had four players in double-figures with
Aubrey Williams and
Johannes Nielsen leading the way with 15 points. Williams also had 15 rebounds to give him 35 rebounds in the past two games.
Trailing by nine at halftime, the Wildcats pushed their lead to 16 and Kennesaw State's offense came alive.
Led by Ray and Nielsen, the Owls surged on a 15-2 run over a four minute span cutting BCU's lead to 47-44 with 12 minutes to play.
Bethune-Cookman stayed tough though holding onto the lead until a Ray jumper to tie the score at 67 with 2:54 remaining.
Kennesaw State held BCU to one field goal in the final four minutes, but the Wildcats were 8-9 from the free throw line to win the game as the Owls missed two chances to tie it up in the final five seconds.
Now, Kennesaw State will travel to Baltimore to take on UMBC this Saturday at 3 p.m.

- Aubrey Williams had his second double-double in a row with 15 points and 15 rebounds. The 20 rebounds he had against Brewton Parker and 15 tonight against Bethune-Cookman are the two highest totals of his career and an average of 17.5 boards per game.
- Johannes Nielsen scored in double figures for the first time in his career with 15 points. He was a big part of the late run for the Owls scoring 13 of his 15 points in the second half.
- The Owls outscored the Wildcats 42-26 in the paint led by Williams, Nielsen and Jordan Jones. Combined, those three went 18-21 from the floor.
