WBB: Aareon Smith Tabbed Atlantic Sun Co-Player of the Week

The junior forward tallied 23 points, including the game-winning point.

MACON, Ga. – After nailing the game-winning free throw with just under five seconds remaining last weekend against Lipscomb, junior forward Aareon Smith earned Atlantic Sun Co-Player of the Week honors, the league announced on Monday (Jan. 11).

Smith collects her first career A-Sun Player of the Week honor after leading the comeback for the Owls this past weekend over Lipscomb. Smith scored 16 of her 23 total points in the third and fourth quarters to help the Owls erase a nine-point halftime deficit.

The junior made nine shots overall, four from behind the arc to lead KSU to its first conference win of the season. With the game tied 54-54 in the closing seconds, Smith was fouled and stepped up to the free throw line to score the game-winning point. She added four rebounds and two steals in the victory.

Smith is averaging 8.9 points per game and has started in 10 of KSU's 16 games this season. In fact, the forward is averaging a team-best 14.2 points per game over the last five games, shooting over 41 percent from the field and from beyond the arc.

Smith and the Owls will hit the road for a weekend set in Jacksonville, Florida, taking on North Florida and Jacksonville on Saturday (Jan. 16) and Monday (Jan. 18), respectively.
