Athens, Ga. – After an intense five set match the day before, the Kennesaw State volleyball team only needed an hour and six minutes to beat the Mercer Bears in three sets on Friday, September 4.

In the first set, the Owls jumped out to an 11-6 lead following an 8-3 run. The Bears cut the lead to 16-13, but KSU responded winning nine of the final ten points to claim the opening set 25-14.

Mercer grabbed an early 3-1 lead in the second set, but the Owls went on another big run, winning 11 of the next 13 points to lead 12-5. Mercer made a late run in the set, but KSU had built a big enough lead at 22-11. They had not trouble closing the second set out to go up 2-0.

In the third set, KSU shut the door quickly on any comeback cruising to a 10-4 lead quickly in the third. The Owls had a lead by as much as 11 in the final set before winning the match 25-16.

We had a really good mindset going into the match and didn't lose focus throughout the match. We played very consistently, everyone contributed and we are very happy with how the results turned out."

Notes- The sweep of Mercer makes the Owls 5-0 on the season, which is the best start in school history.
- In four of the five wins this season, Kennesaw State has swept their opponent. In Schunzel's first two seasons combined, the Owls had six matches they swept their opponent.
- The Owls hit .385 as a team against the Bears today. In four sweeps the team has combined to hit over .327.
- Kennesaw State had four players that hit at least .500 today.
