After each team won the first two sets to have the match even at one, the third set was much more back and forth. The Eagles finally stretched out a lead to 18-13, before the Owls went on a 5-0 run of their own to even the score at 18. Southern responded after that with a 4-0 run going up 22-18 and taking control to go up 2-1.
Coach Schunzel on the Five-Set Thriller"I'm so proud of our group for the resiliency that we showed in a long back and forth match. A couple of times in the match, our team could've had some reasons to get down on themselves, but they constantly stayed positive and kept competing and quickly turned around those poor times into some really good volleyball. Anaiah had a huge bounce back game and was super aggressive today offensively. Our passers kept us in rhythm and our setter did a great job of passing the ball around. We're excited about another big in-state rivalry game tomorrow.
