Live ScoringDAUFUSKIE ISLAND, S.C. – Freshman
Jake Fendt made an impressive debut on Sunday (Sept. 20) as he carded an even-par 72 to lead Kennesaw State during the opening round of the Rees Jones Invitational at the par-72, 7,380-yard Haig Point Golf Course.
Fendt is tied for fifth place and two shots behind Furman's Preston Cole, who recorded a first-round 2-under par 70 and has a one-shot advantage over three players.
The Owls shot a 10-over par 298 and are five shots behind Campbell and Furman, who lead the 10-team field with 5-over par totals of 293. Charlotte (294, +6) and Liberty (295, +7) are third and fourth, respectively.
Kennesaw State sophomores
Wyatt Larkin (74) and
Fredrik Nilehn (75) are tied for 10th and 19th, respectively, while junior Chris Guglielmo (77) is tied for 32nd and freshman
Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres (81) is tied for 43rd.
Junior
Teremoana Beaucousin, who was expected to be in the lineup, had to withdraw before the start of the tournament.
"We had a tough start to the day with the withdrawal of Teremoana due to a stomach bug," head coach
Bryant Odom said. "Fortunately, we were traveling with an individual and
Wyatt Larkin stepped in and played a very solid round of 74.
Jake Fendt opened his college career with a fine 72 that included an eagle on his last hole to lead us. We are still right in the mix for the next two rounds."
The Rees Jones Invitational continues with second-round action on Monday (Sept. 21). The Owls will tee off at 9 a.m. (ET) and all the action can be followed live at
