DALTON, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men's golf team opened its 2015-16 season at the Carpet Capital Collegiate on Friday (Sept. 11) and is currently tied with North Carolina for 11th after the opening round of play at the par-72, 7,012-yard The Farm Golf Club in Dalton, Ga.

The Owls were paced by junior Teremoana Beaucousin, who fired a 2-over par 74 to lead KSU to a first-round total of 11-over par 299, 13 shots behind host Georgia Tech (286, -2). The Yellow Jackets hold a three-shot advantage over Alabama and South Carolina, who are tied for second at 1-over par 289, while defending national champion LSU (291, +3) and Auburn (293, +5) round out the top five.

"The Farm was playing difficult today with very fast greens and tucked hole locations," head coach Bryant Odom said. "We didn't get off to a very good start in combination with the front nine being the more challenging side.  However, everyone improved on the back nine and we were able to turn in a very respectable team score."

"I am most proud of the guys keeping their rounds manageable when they could have gotten away from them," Odom added. "Overall, I am very pleased with the team effort and outlook for the next two days."

The 15-team field includes six teams that advanced to the NCAA Championships a year ago, including defending national champion LSU.

Georgia Tech's Jacob Joiner carded a 6-under par 66 to take a three-shot lead over Alabama teammates Tom Lovelady and Davis Riley, and Sam Burns of LSU. All three players posted 3-under par scores of 69.

Beaucousin is currently tied for 22nd, eight shots off the lead. Sophomore Fredrik Nilehn (75) and freshmen Zach Zediker are Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero are tied for 32nd, while junior Chris Guglielmo (76) is tied for 41st.

The Owls are back in action on Saturday (Sept. 12) with second-round play that begins at 8:30 a.m. (ET). Kennesaw State is grouped with Mississippi and South Florida.
