The Marching Owls RehearsalKennesaw State had a productive day on the field and in the rehearsal hall on Wednesday as the Owls football went through a two-hour morning practice and The Marching Owls had their first rehearsal. Head coach Brian Bohannon ran his team through a crisp practice that included offense versus defense, a two-minute drill session and special teams work that included game-ending field goal situations. Bohannon changed up the day's schedule by cancelling the afternoon practice and the team went to the movies to see "Southpaw". The Owls will be back on the field on Thursday for practice 15 that is scheduled for 3 p.m. Redshirt freshman offensive lineman Zach Mitchler stopped by to visit with KSUOwls.com following Wednesday's practice. THE MARCHING OWLS: Under the direction of Director of Athletics Bands Debra Traficante, The Marching Owls had their first practice of the preseason as they prepare for their debut at the inaugural home football game on Sept. 12 at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. Collins InterviewCamp continued on Tuesday (Day 11) for Kennesaw State as the Owls went through a two-hour afternoon practice in full pads. The practice lasted 24 periods with a lot unit work, offensive and defensive skill positions going against each other, one-on-one competition between the offensive and defensive lines, full 11-on-11 contact.

Head coach Brian Bohannon said the team has a lot of things to work on but said the it is working hard and getting better, and that is the team's goal at this point.Tuesday also marked redshirt freshman defensive lineman Joe Alexander, Jr.'s birthday.Â

Monday, Aug. 10 - Football Camp Notebook (Day 10)Sumpter InterviewThe Kennesaw State football began its second week of training camp on Monday with two practices, working out in full pads in the afternoon before a late afternoon practice in shells.

It marked the second two-a-day practice for the team and once again it received a break with the weather as temperatures were down and there were overcast skies.

The periods were shortened from the usual five minutes down to four and the Owls quickly moved from one session to the next, showing renewed energy after having a day off on Sunday. Kennesaw State will be back out on the field on Tuesday with an afternoon practice.

Simonton InterviewAfter a week of installation, position-specific drills and plenty of instruction from the coaching staff, Kennesaw State players finally had an opportunity to play football as the team held its first scrimmage of fall camp Saturday morning.

Brian Bohannon said he thought there was a lot of good competition and that there were good plays, positives and negatives on both sides of the ball. He added that there are a lot of things the team can learn from, from penalties to big plays to things that happened that the Owls can build on.

Kennesaw State concluded its first week of training camp with a spirited practice as the Owls worked out in pads for the third day in a row. The practice was highlighted by the final period of 11 on 11 where both the offense and defense came up with big plays.

On defense, redshirt defensive back Marcus Thurman stood out, stepping in front of receiver and intercepting a pass with nothing but open field in front of him. Later in the period, he came in on a blitz and recoded a sack.

Offensively, redshirt freshmen Chandler Burks and Justin Sumpter connected on a 70-yard scoring play as Sumpter made a highlight one-handed catch with left and raced into the end zone.

Kennesaw State continued to work on all facets of the game, including kickoff return and field goal/PAT.

The fifth day of training camp marked another first for the Kennesaw State football team as it went through its initial practice in pads on Wednesday. The Owls continue to prepare for their inaugural game at East Tennessee State on Sept. 3.
The Owls began their first padded practice with the Oklahoma Drill, or "Owl Time" as it is referred to at Kennesaw State. The drill matches offensive players against defensive players as a ball carrier tries through a small coned-off space and against three defenders without being tackled or running out of bounds. The defense held tough in the first round, stopping the offense in five attempts. The second round ended with the offense winning the series.
Later in the practice, the team went through an 11-on-11 period that ended with redshirt freshman linebacker Anthony Gore, Jr. breaking through the line for a sack.
The Owls will be back on the field for Practice 6 and 7 as they go through their first two-a-day workout. The team will be in full pads in the morning before working out in shells in a late afternoon practice.
Tuesday, Aug. 4 -- Football Camp Notebook (Day 4)

The Kennesaw State football team wrapped up its fourth day of training camp with its second straight practice in shells on Tuesday (Aug. 4). The Owls continue preparations for their inaugural game at East Tennessee State on Sept. 3.
Head coach Brian Bohannon will put his team through its first practice in full pads on Wednesday (Aug. 5) when Kennesaw State takes to the field for an afternoon practice at The Perch. The initial full-padded workout will be followed by the first two-a-day practice on Thursday (Aug. 6). The Owls will go through a morning workout at 9:25 before coming back later in the day for a 5:10 p.m. practice.

The Kennesaw State football team moved another day closer to making history after completing Day 3 of training camp following a two-hour practice on Monday (Aug. 3) at The Perch. The Owls are working toward their program debut on Sept. 3 when they visit East Tennessee State in Johnson City, Tenn.
Head coach Brian Bohannon and the coaching staff continued the process of installation on all three phases of the game - offense, defense and special teams - as well as working on the fundamentals for each position.
It marked the first day in shells, and the Owls will have one more practice in shells before putting on full pads for the first time. Bohannon and junior center Malik Letatau spoke following practice.

The Kennesaw State football team took part in Big South Media Day last week (July 29-30) at the College Football Hall of Fame and the Atlanta Marriott Northwest at Galleria Hotel, and the event proved to be a success! KSU players Trey White and Taylor Henkle joined head coach Brian Bohannon in the two-day event. A self-guided tour, followed by multiple interviews and a dinner at the College Football Hall of Fame in downtown Atlanta kicked off the annual event. Kennesaw State then followed Wednesday's events the next morning at the Atlanta Marriott Northwest with a full day of interviews with local media outlets, including 680 The Fan, ESPN3, Atlanta Journal Constitution and many, many more!
