KENNESAW, Ga. – After going 2-0 to open the season, the Kennesaw State volleyball team made it a clean sweep on the weekend beating Jacksonville State 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-15) to win the 2015 Kennesaw State Invitational.

The Owls grabbed the momentum immediately in the first set using a 7-2 run to take a 9-3 lead. Jacksonville State didn't have an answer as KSU shut the door 25-15 to go up 1-0.

After claiming the second set and with a chance to close the match in straight sets, the Owls didn't waste any chances. With the third set knotted at eight a piece, Kennesaw State went on a quick 6-0 run to take a 14-8 lead and never relinquished the momentum closing it out 25-15 to win the Kennesaw State Invitational for the second time in three years.

Earlier in the day, KSU downed Savannah State 3-0. The team hit .452 in the dominating win.

Next up, the Owls will travel to Athens, Georgia to play Georgia Southern on Thursday, September 3 and Mercer on Friday, September 4.

Coach Schunzel on the Opening Weekend
"You never know what to expect the first weekend. You expect your team to be excited after a long preseason and we were. We expected our team to play hard and we did. I'm really proud of our girls with how consistent we were all weekend with the effort and communication. We obviously had some incredible performances from Sydni Shelton, who had one of the best opening weekends as a freshman that you could possibly imagine. Anaiah, Kelly and Kristi were great all weekend, and I feel really good about where we're at. We have a long way to go, but that was a really good start."
- Kennesaw State Head Coach Keith Schunzel

Notes
