CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The No. 24 Kennesaw State men's golf team finished sixth at the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional that concluded Saturday (May 16) at the UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Owls fell one place short of advancing to the finals for a second consecutive year.

Kennesaw State was unable to recover from a slow start and finished the third round with a 5-over par 293 total and concluded the tournament at 2-over par 866, seven shots out of the fifth spot occupied by Clemson.

"We didn't get the job done today. It was disappointing to see, especially for three seniors. I am really disappointed we couldn't get to the finals one more time with this great group of guys," head coach Jay Moseley said. "Words can't really describe what you're feeling because there are so many emotions that are wrapped up into a week like this, a day like this.

"I am proud of each and every one of our guys. They did everything they could today," Moseley added. "They did everything I could ever ask of them. It wasn't a lack of effort; we just didn't get the ball in the hole like we needed to."

The Tigers recorded a final-round 4-under par 284 to finish at 5-under par 859. Charlotte captured the regional with a 19-under par 845 score to post a five shot victory over second-place Stanford (850). Top-ranked Florida State (853) and Florida (855) finished third and fourth, respectively, to advance along with Clemson.

Senior Jimmy Beck capped a brilliant four-year career by shooting a final-round 3-under par 69 to finish the 54-hole event tied for fourth at 6-under par 210 and one shot out of participating in a playoff for low individual on a non-advancing team and earning a trip to the NCAA Championships scheduled for May 29 – June 3, at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla.

Beck, whose tie for fourth place finish marks the highest by a Kennesaw State player in five regionals, recorded four birdies on his final round, and came up inches short of a fifth on the 18th green that would have put him in a playoff.

"He finished off his career in great form this week. I was hoping he might have a chance to advance as an individual," Moseley said. "He has been just a great ambassador for our program and for college golf in general. He's a model of excellence in everything he does. He's been consistent from Day 1 since he got here. He's worked hard and been a great leader. I am tickled to death to see what professional golf has in store for him."

The tournament also marked the final collegiate event for seniors Kelby Burton and Austin Vick, who along with Beck, led the Owls men's golf program to its greatest four-year run that has included five regional appearances and a trip to  the finals.

Both Burton (220) and Vick (221) posted closing-round 4-over par 76 scores, to tie for 41st and 49th, respectively.

"They (three seniors) meant so much to me personally and golf wise. I can't really say enough about them. I am so proud of them," Moseley said. "They're great young men and they've given everything they had to the program. I'm thrilled to have known them and thrilled to have them and their families a part of the program.

"I'm so proud of who they are on and off the golf course," Moseley added. "The scores, of course, are important to me and to them, but they've given me more than I could ever ask for so I am extremely proud of them and wish them all the best. They'll be Owls for life."

Freshman Fredrik Nilehn, making his first regional appearance, shot an even-par 72 to tie for 23rd with a 1-over par 271, while sophomore Teremoana Beacusousin tied for 69th with a 14-over par 230 total.

The 2014-15 season marked one of the finest years in the program's history as the Owls recorded 11 top four finishes in 12 events, captured two tournament titles and had two runner-up finishes. Kennesaw State was ranked inside the Top 25 for most of the season.

Individually, Nilehn produced an impressive rookie season, claiming two individual titles, and Beck led the Owls with a 71.15 scoring average and eight top 20 finishes, including seven top 10s.
