Live Scoring KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – Kennesaw State freshman
Fredrik Nilehn turned in rounds of 66 and 68 to take the 36-hole lead at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate that opened Saturday (April 11) at the par-71, 7,099-yard Irish Creek Golf Club.
Nilehn currently stands at 8-under par 134 and holds a two-shot advantage over UNC Wilimington's Trey Guy (136). His performance helped the No. 26 Owls post rounds of 277-286 for a 5-under par 563 total, two strokes behind No. 24 North Florida, which leads the 15-team field with a 7-under par 561.
"Today we once again showed flashes of brilliance and then we had moments where we did not score well at all," Kennesaw State head coach
Jay Moseley said. "We got out of the gate very well today and made tons of birdies. Conversely, in the second round we got off to a slow start but we fortunately salvaged the round with some late birdies."
Nilehn totaled 12 birdies during his two rounds, including seven during his opening 18 holes as he began the day with three straight on in first three holes of the day.
"Fredrik's play was very solid today and he showed his potential, Moseley said. "Our guys all believe we left shots on the course so we are just going to get a good rest tonight and focus on playing our best golf tomorrow (Sunday)."
