SB: Owls Set to Host Owls Invitational This Weekend Due to Weather Issues

KSU Welcomes in Indiana, Austin Peay, Eastern Illinois and Saint Louis at Bailey Park

THE GAMES:
Originally set to play in Johnson City, Tenn., at the Holiday Inn Invitational, The Kennesaw State softball team withdrew due to weather and will now be hosting the Owl Invitational at Bailey Park this weekend, March 6-8 and welcoming in Big 10 foe Indiana, as well as Austin Peay, Eastern Illinois and Saint Louis. The Owls open the tournament on Friday against Austin Peay at 2:30 p.m., before taking on Saint Louis at 5 p.m. On Saturday, KSU faces the Govs for a second time, before wrapping the tournament with Sunday games against Indiana at 12 p.m. and Eastern Illinois at 2 p.m.

THE SERIES:
The Owls own advantages in the all-time series with Austin Peay (3-1), Indiana (1-0) and Eastern Illinois (1-0), while Saint Louis owns a 1-0 edge over KSU in the all-time series.
 
LAST TIME OUT:
The Kennesaw State softball team had its five-game winning streak snapped in a 4-2 setback to Southeastern Conference (SEC) foe Mississippi State on a rainy Wednesday (March 4) afternoon at the MSU Softball Field. Sophomore Lauren Bennett led KSU with a 2-of-3 effort plus an RBI, with classmate Taylor Denton and freshman Noelle Winkles each contributing a hit and a run on the day.
 
NEXT UP:
The Owls next host Belmont in a midweek doubleheader on Tuesday, March 10 in Bailey Park starting at 3 p.m. ET.
 
NEWS AND NOTES:
Owls Nearing 300th Division I Victory
The Owls as a program are just five victories away from their 300th Division I win and are in their ninth season at the Division I level.
 
Upset City
The Owls defeated then-No. 5/6 Kentucky on Feb. 14 with UK representing the highest ranked opponent KSU has defeated since moving up to the Division I level.
 
Super Senior, Part I
Senior Natalie Rhodes leads the league with five triples on the season, while ranking 10th in the league with a .404 batting average and is tied for fifth with 21 hits.
 
Super Senior, Part II
Rhodes is the co-leader on the team with 35 total bases, while ranking in a tie for second with 13 runs scored and is in the top three in slugging percentage (.673) and stolen bases (five).
 
Stolen Bases
Sophomore Taylor Denton has led the Owls on the bases and is 6-for-6 on stolen base attempts.
 
Going Yard
Nine Owls have gone yard on the season, with junior Hillary Kartman leading the way with four home runs. Chambers (three), junior Megan Veringa (two) and redshirt-sophomore Courtney Sutter (two) have each posted multiple homers on the season.
