EATONTON, Ga. – The No. 25 Kennesaw State men's golf team turned in another solid performance at the Linger Longer Invitational as it tied No. 20 North Carolina for third place at the 15-team tournament that concluded Sunday at the par-72, 7,073-yard Great Waters Golf Course at Reynolds Plantation.
The Owls, who entered the day in first place with a four-shot lead over No. 3 Texas, posted a final-round 6-over par 294 to finish at 17-under par 847, seven shots behind the Longhorns' winning total of 24-under par 840 and two strokes behind No. 35 Georgia (845), which finished second.
"We obviously did not come out of today with the result we wanted but I'm extremely proud of our guys for giving their best efforts on a difficult day scoring wise," Moseley said, referring to the consistent rain that was prevalent from the outset.
"I thought we handled ourselves very well. We just didn't execute the shots we needed to when we needed them," Moseley added. "Overall, it was a great experience and we definitely have some positives to build on moving forward."
One positive the Owls can take away from the tournament is tying for third in an event that included seven teams ranked in Golfstat's top 50 and finishing ahead of No. 15 Oklahoma and No. 24 Alabama. It also marked KSU's 18th top five finish in its last 20 tournaments dating back to the 2013-14 season.
For the third straight tournament sophomore
Teremoana Beaucousin led the Kennesaw State as he shot a final-round even-par 72 to finish at 7-under par 209 and in sixth place. Beaucousin carded rounds of 65-72-72 to finish seven shots behind Georgia's Lee McCoy who claimed individual medalist honors with a 14-under par score of 202.
Senior
Austin Vick also had a strong tournament as he tied for 12th with a 4-under par total of 212, marking his fourth straight Top 25 finish at the Linger Longer Invitational.
Seniors
Kelby Burton (T19, 215) and
Jimmy Beck (T25, 216) produced top 25 finishes, while freshman
Fredrik Nilehn tied for 40th at 2-over par 218.
Freshman
Wyatt Larkin, who played as an individual, tied for 66th with an 8-over par score of 224.
Kennesaw State is next in action on April 3 when it opens play in the Mason Rudolph Championship hosted by Vanderbilt at the Legends Club in Nashville, Tenn.
