Live ScoringEATNONTON, Ga. – The No. 25 Kennesaw State men's golf team turned in another record-breaking performance at the 15-team Linger Longer Invitational that opened Saturday (Mar. 21) at the par-72, 7,073-yard Great Waters Golf Course at Reynolds Plantation.
Behind a career-best 7-under par 65 by sophomore
Teremoana Beaucousin in the first round, and two solid scores from senior
Austin Vick, the Owls hold a four-shot lead over No. 3 Texas (557). Kennesaw State opened with a school-record 15-under par 273 and followed it up with an 8-under par 280 to establish a 36-hole program mark of 23-under par 553. Both scores are par-72 school records
In a field that includes seven teams in the current Golfstat top 50 rankings, the Owls have three players in the top eight in Vick, Beaucousin and senior
Kelby Burton.
Vick shot a pair of 68s and is tied for second at 8-under par 136, one shot behind Georgia's Lee McCoy, who is at 9-under par 135. Beaucousin (137) is tied for fifth and Burton is at 6-under par 138 and tied for eighth after shooting 69-69.
"I thought we had a great day out there today. It was good to see some guys who we knew had been playing well for a while put some really good rounds together," Moseley said. "I feel great about the position we're in. It was great to see the guys really go out and get after it. We're going to go out tomorrow, give it our best and see what happens."
Beaucousin, Vick, Burton and senior
Jimmy Beck (71) all turned in under-par rounds. Those four scores helped Kennesaw State tie Texas for the first-round lead.
"
Kelby Burton's play today was outstanding and could have been even better at times. He felt like he left some shots out there, but he played very, very well for us," Moseley said. "Teremoana's first round was unbelievable. He played an amazing round of golf and
Austin Vick's play continues to impress me. To see a senior go out there and really get the job done is great."
Beck is currently tied for 26th at 1-under par 143, while freshman
Fredrik Nilehn is tied for 46th at 1-over par 145.
Freshman
Wyatt Larkin, who is playing as an individual, is tied for 55th at 2-over par 146 after posting scores of 70-76.
At 23-under par, Kennesaw State is in position to set the Linger Longer Invitational 54-hole record since the event moved to Great Waters Golf Course in 2011. Defending champion Georgia holds the mark of 27-under par 837 that was set last year. The KSU par-72 54-hole scoring record is 845 that was accomplished at the 2002 Barefoot at the Beach Intercollegiate.
The Linger Longer Invitational concludes on Sunday (Mar. 22) with a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. (ET). All the action can be followed live at
