WBB: Owls Travel to Northern Kentucky for Crucial A-Sun Contest

KSU and Norse Tip off at 7 p.m. ET on Wednesday for the Owls’ Final Regular Season Road Game

THE GAME:
The Kennesaw State women's basketball team is set to head to Highland Heights, Ky., for its final regular season road trip of the season as the Owls take on Northern Kentucky in a crucial Atlantic Sun Conference game on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. ET in the Bank of Kentucky Center.

THE OPPONENT:
Northern Kentucky
The Norse come into Wednesday's midweek clash with a 15-12 overall record and sit in a tie for third at 6-6 in A-Sun standings after earning a 67-29 blowout win over North Florida on Saturday. NKU owns a 7-5 at the Bank of Kentucky Center and has two players averaging double figures in Melody Doss with a team-leading 13.8 points per game, while Christine Roush adds12.7 per game. Kaitlyn Gerrety paces the Norse on the glass with a 5.2 boards per game, while Rianna Gayheart hands out a team-high 3.3 assists per contest. The Norse are averaging just 62.1 points per game and are shooting the rock at a 37.2 percentage which sits second-to-last in the conference, while leading the A-Sun with a 76.4 percentage from the free throw line.   
 
THE SERIES:
This will be the sixth meeting between the Owls and the Norse, with NKU holding a 3-2 advantage in the all-time series. After dropping the first three matchups, KSU has won back-to-back meetings with the Norse, including the Owls' 66-58 win earlier this season on Jan. 14, 2015 in Kennesaw. Sophomore Deandrea Sawyers turned in a career-high 26 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the floor, including a 4-of-8 mark from the three-point lane and draining 10-of-11 free throws, while also registering a game-high eight rebounds and two assists in the win. Redshirt-freshman Kelly Dulkoski added a second-half spark with 12 points, going 4-of-6 from beyond the arc.

LAST TIME OUT:
The Kennesaw State women's basketball held a second-half lead against second-place Stetson, but could not hold on for the Atlantic Sun Conference victory as the Owls dropped a 70-58 decision to the Hatters on Saturday (Feb. 21) at the KSU Convocation Center. Senior Kristina Wells added another strong late-season performance with 14 points and 13 rebounds for her second-straight double-double and her sixth of the season. Sophomore Aareon Smith poured in 14 points, including three first-half three-pointers, while junior Jasmine McAllister contributed 12 points and eight rebounds and redshirt-freshman Katie Hunt turned in a career-high with 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the floor to go along with six boards.
 
NEXT UP:
The Owls will return to the KSU Convocation Center for their final regular season game of the season against Lipscomb at 12 p.m. ET in Kennesaw. KSU will honor seniors Kristina Wells and Valescia Dixon prior to the game's tipoff.
 
NEWS AND NOTES:
Owls Keep Making History
The Owls equaled their win total from last season (6-24) in just eight games this season and have won 16 games for the first time since the 2007-08 season.
 
Most Wins in DI History
This season's 16 wins also ties the 2007-08 campaign for the most wins in program history for Division I play.
 
Owls Tops in Rebounding Margin
KSU has outrebounded its opponents for five-straight contests and leads the league with a +2.9 rebounding margin in overall play, while ranking second in conference action at +3.9.
 
KSU on the Glass Part I
The Owls are holding their opponents to 36.7 rebounds per contest in overall play and 35.2 boards per A-Sun contest to rank second in both categories.
 
KSU on the Glass Part II
KSU is grabbing 14 boards on the offensive end of the ball to rank third in the A-Sun in overall action, while also sitting third with 13.5 offensive boards in conference play.
 
Sawyers Leading the Owls Scorers
Sophomore Deandrea Sawyers leads the Owls and ranks second in the A-Sun in scoring in overall action (14.1 ppg), while also ranking in a tie for 10th in conference play (13.5 ppg). She has 21 double digit games and owns five 20-point or more contests this season.
 
Top Five Owls in Rebounding
The Owls have two players in the top five in rebounding in both overall and conference action in junior Jasmine McAllister and senior Kristina Wells. McAllister ranks second in both categories with 10.4 boards per game in overall play and 9.3 in league play. Wells ranks fourth with 8.4 boards in overall play and has upped her average in A-Sun action with 8.7 boards to sit third.
 
McAllister on the Offensive
McAllister adds 13.6 points per game in overall action to rank ninth in the A-Sun, while also ranking third and 42nd in the NCAA with a 50.9 field goal percentage.
 
Strong Third Option
Wells is also the third Owl averaging double figures and sits in the top-20 for scoring at 17th with 11.7 points a game. 
 
McAllister in NCAA Rankings
McAllister's 10.4 boards per game ranks 29th in the NCAA, while the junior also leads the A-Sun and ranks 25th in the country with 4.1 offensive rebounds per game.
 
Seniors Die Hard
Wells is averaging 15.7 points, 9.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists in the last six games, while shooting the ball at a 38.7 percent clip from the floor and at 86.8 percent from the free throw line in that span.
 
A-Sun Career Points Leader
Wells is the active career points leader in the A-Sun after going over the 1,300-point mark earlier this season. She is currently the only active player that has at least 1,300 points, 800 rebounds, 300 assists and 190 steals and has amassed 1,344 points, 821 rebounds, 315 assists and 193 steals as an Owl.
