Results

Birmingham, Ala. -
The Kennesaw State men's and women's track teams got the indoor season off to a fast start at the Panther Icebreaker at the Birmingham Crossplex.

"There were lots of personal records set by our team today," Assistant Head Coach Duane Morris said. "This December meet is always a good indicator to us about the work we put in the fall."

On the men's side, Bilal Abdullah led the way for the Owls winning two events. He broke his own school and meet record with a 7.96 in the preliminary qualifier for the 60 hurdle and a time of 7.94 in the finals. The time of 7.94 is currently fastest in the nation.  Abdullah picked up his second win in the long jump setting a meet record with a jump of 7.63m (25-00.50) which also tops in the nation.

"Bilal set the tone for the team today," Morris said. "His goal was to lead the nation in his two events and he did that just today."

Dayo Akindele started off his season strong with a third place finish in the 60m hurdles in 8.12.

Freshmen Braden Canamare finished sixth in the 400m dash after picking up a win in his heat in 50.23.

Hunter Arnold and Brenton Rosa tied for fourth in the pole vault with vaults of 4.45m (14-7.25).

On the women's side, Kidan Kidane got Owls rolling by winning the teams first event of the season, the 3000m in 9;56.99 by almost 20 seconds. She would follow that up later with a 4th place finish in the mile run of 5;00.23. Maileka Slayton finished third in the 200m after winning her in heat in 24.69. In the field events, Shakedra Robinson tied for a win in the high jump with jump of 1.70m (5-7).

"Kidan was very close to breaking a pair of school records today," Morris stated. "She has put in the hard work and it is showing. There are other events on that side that we need to continue to work on, but we will be ready by the time  the indoor conference championships  comes around in March."

The Owls will travel to Birmingham, Alabama on January 15 and 16 for the UAB Blazer Invitational and UAB Vulcan Classic  at the Birmingham Crossplex.
