Box Score (XML) | Box Score (PDF) JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Needing a win against Jacksonville to secure at least a three seed in the Atlantic Sun tournament, the Kennesaw State volleyball team came out playing with the urgency to sweep the Jacksonville Dolphins.
In the opening set, Kennesaw State and Jacksonville traded points almost the entire way through until
Cierra Royster got a kill and
Maddie Jones aced the Dolphins to have two set points. After JU spoiled one of the set points,
Sydni Shelton and Royster came up with a block to put the Owls up 1-0.
Once KSU won the close first set, they put their foot on the gas and didn't look back. With the score tied at eight in the second, the Owls went on a 4-0 run forcing the Dolphins to use a timeout. Out of the timeout, JU grabbed a couple of points, but the Owls responded with a 6-2 run to go up 18-12 and cruise to a 25-16 set victory.
In the third set, the Owls grabbed a 10-5 lead early and held Jacksonville off late to close out the match.
The win for Kennesaw State clinches at least a three seed in the A-Sun Tournament next Thursday-Saturday at Lipscomb. For the Owls to get the two seed, FGCU has to lose to NJIT tonight.
Coach Schunzel on the Bounce Back Win Against Jacksonville"What a neat thing to watch our team bounce back on the road like that after getting beat pretty good last night. We served and passed it fantastic today and played very clean volleyball. JU is a team full of crafty players that presents a lot of challenges, but after pulling out a close set one, we dominated the rest of the match. I'm so proud, but not surprised in the least of the resilience of our group this weekend, because we've been doing it all year long. Next week is going to be an absolute dog fight, and we have a team full of people that can't wait for the challenge."
- Kennesaw State Head Coach Keith Schunzel Notes- The win gives the Owls 17 on the year, which ties the most in school history. The other team to finish the season with 17 wins was in 2010.
