Ida Hepsoe each scored goals as Kennesaw State played host Stetson to a 2-2 tie in an Atlantic Sun Conference match Friday at the Athletic Training Center in Deland, Fla.
The Owls (4-7-2, 1-1-1) were nearly three minutes away from picking a big conference road win before the Hatters' Adrianna Suarez scored the equalizing goal at the 87:03 mark to knot the score at 2-2 and force overtime.
It was an evenly played match through regulation with Stetson (7-5-1, 1-1-1) holding a 15-14 edge in shots and a 9-7 advantage in shots-on-goal.
During the overtime period, the Hatters outshot the Owls, 7-2, and had two shots-on-goal. Kennesaw State goalkeeper
Ashley Zambetti had a strong game in goal, recording a season-high 11 saves.
As it did to start the match, Kennesaw State scored early in the second half when sophomore
Ida Hepsoe broke a 1-1 tie with her first goal of the season at the 49:55 mark after receiving a pass from junior
Cassidy Kemp. It looked as if it would stand up as the game-winner before Suarez beat the Owls defense with the equalizer with less than three minutes remaining in regulation.
Churchill gave Kennesaw State an early 1-0 lead when she found the back of the net nearly six minutes into the match after converting a penalty kick for her third goal of the season. Stetson tied the score at the 13:45 mark on a goal by Sarah Collins.
The Owls conclude their trip to Florida on Sunday (Oct. 11) when they travel to Fort Myers to take on Florida Gulf Coast at 1 p.m.
Notes- Friday's match marked the third double-overtime contest of the season for the Owls and second in three A-Sun Conference contests. The Owls are 0-1-2 in overtime, tying Clayton State 1-1 and falling 1-0 to Lipscomb.
