Christopher Guglielmo tied for 20th place at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate that concluded Tuesday (Oct. 6) at the par-70, 7,029-yard Old Overton Country Club in Vestavia Hills, Ala.
Fendt saved his best for last as he carded a closing-round and career-best 3-under par 67 to finish the 54-hole event at 2-over par 212. He opened play with rounds of 72-73 on Monday. Guglielmo closed with an even-par 70 to follow up rounds of 73-69.
Alabama's Robbie Shelton claimed individual medalist honors with an 11-under par total of 199.
Fendt's effort led Kennesaw State to its best round of the tournament on Tuesday as the Owls recorded a 4-over par 284 and finished play at 28-over par 868 to place 10th in the 12-team event. Host and defending champion Alabama captured the tournament with 19-under par total of 821 to finish five shots ahead of second-place Florida (826, -14).
"I'm really excited about the effort of Jake and Chris this week," head coach
Bryant Odom said. "They both tied for 20th in a very strong field. More importantly, they have showed progress each week in the areas of their game that needed the most improvement.
"Jake shot the team's low round of the year with a 67 today and Chris shot par or better the last two rounds," Odom added. "I am proud of these two for their leadership and willingness to make small changes."
Sophomore
Fredrik Nilehn (220, +10) tied for 42nd, while freshman
Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres (227, +17) and junior
Teremoana Beaucousin (229, +19) tied for 55th and 57th, respectively.
Kennesaw State will have two weeks off before hosting the Pinetree Intercollegiate Oct. 19-20 at nearby Pinetree Country Club. The Owls will be seeking to win the event for a fourth consecutive year.
