Box Score (XML) | Box Score (PDF) KENNESAW, Ga. – In a very intense match between two teams in the top half of the conference, the Lipscomb Bisons got the best of Kennesaw State in a close five set match on Halloween night.
Â
Trailing 23-20 in the fourth set, KSU came out of a timeout and went on a 4-0 run with
Kelly Marcinek serving to earn a set point. The Bisons staved off the set point as well as two more before a
Sydni Shelton kill and a Lipscomb error notched the match at two sets each and forced a fifth set.
Â
The Owls raced out to a lead in the fifth at 8-3 as the team's switched sides, but then Lipscomb started chipping away. The Bisons ended up going on an 8-2 run and taking a one-point lead before KSU tied at back up at 11 on a service error. Both teams traded points and were tied at 13, before Lipscomb stepped up to win the final two points to clinch the match.
Â
In the opening set, the Owls came storming out of the gate racing to a 9-4 lead. Lipscomb would get within a point in the middle of the set, but KSU wouldn't let them tie it up as they went on a run of their own to close out the set 25-17.
Â
Next weekend, KSU will have its final two home matches of the 2015 season against Stetson on Friday night and Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday night for Senior Night.
Coach Schunzel on the Loss to Lipscomb"What a great college volleyball match with two tough, talented, skilled teams competing. I love what we did offensively tonight, and I loved the mental focus we had for essentially the entire match. High-level volleyball comes down to a few plays here and there and tonight Lipscomb made them at the very end and we didn't. We've put ourselves in a really good position in the conference standings with four games left. I look forward to finishing these last two weeks as strong as possible for a good seed in the conference tournament. I'm more proud than I have ever been to be an Owl today."
