NEWARK, N.J. – In the first trip to NJIT, the Kennesaw State volleyball team didn't mess around downing the Highlanders in a quick three set match in Newark, New Jersey.

In the first set, KSU jumped out to an early lead going up by six at 10-4. The Owls maintained at least a six-point lead until NJIT made a small run cutting that lead down to four, forcing Kennesaw State to use a timeout at 19-15. The closest the Highlanders would get from there was at 19-16, before KSU closed out the set after the Boyer twins had the final three kills to get the Owls to 25.

The second set was much closer as the teams went point for point and NJIT held their first lead in the match. The Owls finally got some breathing room from the Highlanders when Katarina Morton was serving and NJIT had three hitting errors in a row to put KSU up 20-17. NJIT came back to take the lead one more time, but KSU ended the set on a 4-0 run to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Looking to close the match out in three sets, the Owls came out in the third and grabbed the lead early at 6-3. Shortly after that, they used a 7-1 run to double the Highlanders up at 12-6 and KSU never looked back after that. Kennesaw State's largest lead in the set was by nine, and Cierra Royster ended up winning the match with a kill closing out the final set 25-17.

KSU will be back at it on Sunday against Lipscomb at 3 p.m. The Bisons are undefeated in A-Sun play so far this season.

Coach Schunzel on the Win against NJIT
"Other than a few too many service errors, we played a solid match. We did nothing special, but that in itself is something that our group needs to realize, that we don't need to play special, we just need to play our brand of good, consistent volleyball. Anaiah Boyer played well with some great attacking decisions resulting in a bunch of kills and very few errors. I'm also proud that our group focused very well on playing point for point in this match. With a huge match coming up on Sunday, it would've been very easy to overlook NJIT, but our guys are starting to understand that every conference match is a huge match and that's fun to see us mature. We'll enjoy this road win tonight and know that Lipscomb will be ready for us on Sunday, but I can promise you that Kennesaw State will too."
- Kennesaw State Head Coach Keith Schunzel
