DELAND, Fla. – The Kennesaw State volleyball team lost to the Stetson Hatters in four sets on Saturday, October 10.

In the middle of the first set with the score tied at 12, Kennesaw State used an 8-3 run to surge to a 20-15 lead. The Hatters responded with a 6-1 run of their own to tie the score at 21. The Owls took one more lead in the set at 22-21, but that was the last lead they held in the opening set. KSU did save four set points for Stetson, but couldn't quite get over the hump as Stetson closed the first set 28-26.

After falling down in the match 2-0, KSU needed to respond to stay alive and they did just that. The Owls surged to a 10-5 lead and maintained that five-point lead throughout the set until the end when the Hatters made it tight. Stetson got within one, but kills by Amariah Boyer, Liesl Engelbrecht and Sydni Shelton closed out the set forcing a fourth set.

Early in the fourth set, Stetson took the lead, but the Owls served themselves back into the match taking a 10-7 lead. Stetson came back to tie the score at 13, and Engelbrecht, Shelton and Taylor picked up three kills sparking a 3-0 Owl run and forced Stetson to take a timeout. The Hatters bounced back with three separate 3-0 runs to take the lead back and eventually go on to win the set and close out the match.

Next weekend, KSU will make its first ever trip to NJIT to play the Highlanders on Friday, October 16.

 Notes
- Rachel Taylor and Liesl Engelbrecht, both starting middles, combined to have 27 kills and seven blocks as well as both of them hitting over .400 in the match.
- Maddie Jones led the way in digs again with 17. That gives her 47 for the weekend in nine sets of play.
- Other than the two middles having double-digit kills, Anaiah Boyer was also in double-digits with 10.
