BSB: Owls Continue to Roll; Drop Hatters 7-5

Bergen tosses 7 shutout innings.

FORT MYERS, Fla. –
Travis Bergen pitched seven shutout innings as Kennesaw State defeated Stetson 7-5 in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament. The Owls move to 2-0  in the tournament and are within one win of playing in their third straight A-Sun Championship.

Bergen (7-4) gave up just six hits while striking out five leading the Owls to their  17th straight conference win dating back to the regular season. The win moves the Owls to 35-21 on the season giving them the most wins in a single-season since moving to NCAA Division I. 

"I thought we played a really solid game," head coach Mike Sansing said. "We made a couple of mistakes early in the game, but we overcame those. We pitched well. Bergen threw great. Bo had a tremendous game. Those guys led us today for sure."

The Owls grabbed  the early lead in the bottom of the third on a Kal Simmons RBI single which scored Justin Motley.

KSU would strike again in the bottom of the fourth when they added a pair of runs on back-to-back sacrifice flies by Motley and Matt Bahnick

Next inning, the Owls continued to build on their lead when Bo Way knocked in another run to give the Owls a 4-0 lead in the ballgame.

The Owls would tack on another run on an RBI single by Jacob Bruce in the seventh inning making the score 5-0.

After Stetson got on the board with three runs in the top of the eighth, the Owls picked up a pair of insurance runs on RBI singles by Motley and Cornell Nixon.

Stetson tried to mount another rally in the ninth, but closer Justin McCalvin was able to get out of the jam to pick up his 13th save of the season.
 
The Owls had 13 hits in the game with Way collecting three hits and four different Owls had two hits each.

Max Pentecost was hitless in the game which snapped the nation's longest hit streak at 36 games.

The Owls will  return to action on Saturday (May 22) against the winner of ETSU and Stetson.
