NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Junior guard Yonel Brown scored a game-high 21 points and junior forward Damien Wilson added 11 points to lead Kennesaw State in a 73-62 loss to Tennessee State at the Gentry Center in Nashville on Wednesday (Jan. 31).

Brown reached double figures for the 11th time this season and Wilson produced his second straight double-digit outing for the Owls (4-11). Freshmen Darreon Reddick and Christian Mekowulu led the Tigers (3-12) with 16 points apiece.

"It was a tough game. Our team energy was up and down," Kennesaw State head coach Jimmy Lallathin said. "We got a lot of open looks, but we just have to step up and knock them down. I thought [Tennessee State] did a good job limiting us in transition, so now we have to bounce back for a game at home on Saturday."

Kennesaw State was never able to find its offensive rhythm as the Owls shot just 32 percent (17-for-53) from the field, including 25 percent (7-for-28) in the first half as they trailed 30-24 at halftime.

"We had the shooters we wanted shooting the ball, but it's on them to make them," Lallathin said. "There were a couple of shots that you would want to take back…I don't know if it is something that happens to us on the road, but we have to do a better job of taking what is given to us."

Tennessee State concluded the afternoon converting 55 percent (23-for-42) of its field goal attempts and held a 35-29 rebounding advantage. The Tigers also used their size advantage to outscore the Owls 32-16 in the paint.

Kennesaw State returns to the KSU Convocation Center on Saturday (Jan. 3) when it hosts Thomas University at 2 p.m. (ET) in a game that can watched liven on ESPN3. The contest will mark the final non-conference game for the Owls before they open Atlantic Sun Conference play at USC Upstate on Jan. 10.
