WBB: Owls Travel North for Pre-Thanksgiving Contest at Seton Hall

THE GAME:
The Kennesaw State women's basketball team travels to New York and New Jersey over the Thanksgiving holiday for a pair of games, first taking on Big East opponent Seton Hall on Wednesday, Nov. 26 in South Orange, N.J. Tipoff is slated for 12 p.m. ET in Walsh Gymnasium.

THE OPPONENT:
Seton Hall
The Pirates enter Wednesday's contest coming off a 2-1 performance in the Preseason WNIT to start the season, picking up wins over Rider (66-47) and Big 10 foe Penn State (75-70). SHU have four players averaging double figures, led by Tabatha Richardson-Smith with 25.5 points per contest. Ka-Deidre Simmons adds 20 points per outing, while Bra'Shey Ali and Daisha Simmons chip in 10 each. Ali also leads the Pirates with 8.7 rebounds per game, while Ka-Deidra Simmons owns 21 assists on the year. SHU is averaging 76 points per contest, while shooting at a 40 percent clip from the field. They have an even better percentage from the three-point line, where they are making 42.6 percent of their threes.

This will be the first-ever meeting between the Owls and the Pirates.

LAST TIME OUT:
The Kennesaw State women's basketball team earned its second road win of the season as the Owls used a dominating performance to defeat in-state rival Georgia Southern, 72-51, on Saturday (Nov. 22) in Hanner Fieldhouse. For the second-consecutive game sophomore Deandrea Sawyers led all scorers with 19 points for the Owls (3-1), going 8-of-14 from the field. Along with Sawyers, KSU had five players reach double-digit points in the win as junior Jasmine McAllister added 16 points and 13 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Seniors Kristina Wells and Breonna Mosely, along with sophomore Aareon Smith chipped in 10 each for the Owls.

Kennesaw State wraps up its Thanksgiving holiday road trip in New York City with a Saturday afternoon (Nov. 29) contest against Columbia in Levien Gymnasium at 1 p.m. ET.
 
NEWS AND NOTES:
Best Start Since 2007-08
The Owls are off to their best start to a season since the 2007-08 campaign with three wins and only one loss in four games to open 2014-15. KSU posted back-to-back wins to start the season for the first time since 2007-08 as well.
 
Defense Wins Games
KSU is playing tough defense this season, holding opponents to just 61.2 points per game, which ranks third in the A-Sun. The Owls also rank third in three-point field goal defense and are holding opponents to just 24.6 percent behind the arc.
 
Owls at the Charity Stripe
The Owls lead the Atlantic Sun Conference with a 76.3 free throw percentage and have converted on 61-of-80 shots from the charity stripe. KSU shot a season-high 85.2 percent (23-of-27) from the free throw line in its win at Tennessee State on Nov. 17.
 
McAllister Leading the Way
Junior Jasmine McAllister is leading the league with 11.5 rebounds per game, while also ranking sixth in the conference with 14.5 points per game.
 
Owls in Scoring Top-20
Along with McAllister, the Owls have four players in the top 20 in scoring in the A-Sun. Joining the junior are sophomore Deandrea Sawyers (14.0 ppg, seventh), senior Kristina Wells (12.0 ppg, 16th) and redshirt-senior Breonna Mosely (10.5 ppg, 19th).
 
Sawyers Grabbing Boards
Sawyers also ranks in the top-10 in the conference in rebounding with 6.3 boards per contest, good for 10th in the league.
 
Mosely from the Field
Mosely is shooting at a 51.7 clip from the field, which sits fourth in the A-Sun. She has converted on 15-of-29 shots in her one and only season with the Owls.
 
Frye Dishing It
Junior Karly Frye is averaging 4.8 assists per game, ranking her second in the conference and has dished out 19 helpers on the year.
 
Wells at the Line
Wells has led the Owls from the charity stripe and ranks fourth in the conference with an 88.9 percentage from the free throw line, going 16-of-18 through three games this season. She opened the season with 16-straight free throws, before missing her first two attempts on Saturday at Georgia Southern.
