Owls Perform Well at Atlantic Sun Conference Championships

Women Finish Fourth; Men's Sixth as Daniel Garcia Named Freshman of the Year

DeBary, Fla. – The Kennesaw State men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Atlantic Sun Conference Cross Country Championship on Saturday (Nov. 1) at Riverside Nature Park in Debary, Florida.

The women's team grabbed a top-five finish, placing fourth, while Daniel Garcia led the men to a sixth-place showing. Garcia was tabbed first-team all-conferenceand Freshman of the Year.

Sophomore Kidan Kidane finished 11th in the women's 5K race with a time of 18:03.54 and freshman Katrine Rasmussen (18:17.33) placed 14th to earn second-team all-conference honors. Freshman Joyce Mattagliano (18:44.92) finished 22nd while junior Amanda Cope placed 33rd place and senior Sydney Williams finished 41st. Rasmussen also was named to the A-Sun Conference's All-Freshman team.

"The women ran a gutsy race," Owls head coach Joel Pearson said. "Our number five spot just did not put it together today. Kidan (Kidane) and Katrine did a great job up front today. Congratulations to them for achieving Second Team All-Conference. I also thought Amanda Cope ran a very solid race today."

In the men's 8K race, Garcia lead the way for Kennesaw State for the fifth consecutive meet, finishing second overall with a time of 25:03.00

Fellow newcomer Dylan Titon earned all-freshman honors after finishing 18th with a time of 26:07.95. Freshman Cameron Gatt placed 25th, running a 26:07.95 while Jordan Hand grabbed a 27:40.85 place finish with a time of 27:40.85. Junior Natan Reuter rounded out the top five finishers for the Owls.

"Daniel Garcia led us again today and I am excited for him to be Freshmen of the Year and A-Sun runner-up and he has a bright future ahead of him," Pearson added.

Kennesaw State will next be in action on Nov. 14 when it travels to Tallahassee, Fla. for the Southeast Regional Championships.
