Â
Playing on their home course, the Owls got off to a hot start as freshman
Fredrik Nilehn shot an opening-round 8-under par 64 that set a tournament record and broke the Kennesaw State 18-hole record on a par-72 course. His round, which included eight birdies and an eagle, helped KSU to a 12-under par 276 total that represents the second-lowest 18-hole score in program history.
Â
"I played very well today, especially in the first round," Nilehn said. "You are able to score well on Pinetree if you putt well and that's what I did today. I'm very excited for the final round tomorrow (Tuesday) and I look forward to us continuing to play well."
Â
Nilehn had an opportunity to set the course record heading to the 18th before settling for a 64 after posting a double-bogey on the closing hole. The Owls' freshman followed with a second-round 2-under par 70 to finish at 10-under par 134 to take a three-shot lead over senior teammate

Both Vick and Beck turned in a pair of sub-70 rounds, shooting 69-68 and 69-69, respectively.
Â
The 36-hole 134 total equaled the Kennesaw State par-72 record held by Michael Tulacz that was set during the 2011 USA Jaguar Invitational.
