KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State softball team will look to climb the Atlantic Sun Conference standings as the Owls host Florida Gulf Coast in a three-game series on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 9-10 at Bailey Park. KSU and FGCU will play a doubleheader on Tuesday, followed by a single game on Wednesday. First pitch for both days is scheduled for 3 p.m. (ET).

There will be multiple promotions during the three-game series with FGCU, as Tuesday will be Kennesaw Girls Softball Association Day, with anyone wearing a jersey receiving free admission. There will also be a free pennant giveaway for the first 100 fans in attendance and an autograph session on the field for all youth in attendance following the conclusion of the second game.
Wednesday will be Golden Years Appreciation Day with people 55 and older receiving a discounted ticket for $3 and will also feature Kennesaw State lacrosse Head Coach
Kristina Llanes throwing out the first pitch. During Wednesday’s game, fans are encouraged to participate in softball bingo, while hot dogs and Cokes will also be available for fans to purchase for only $1.
Admission for each day is $6 for adults and $4 for youth, with Kennesaw State students, faculty and staff receiving free admission with a valid KSU ID.
The Owls (24-13, 8-7 A-Sun) won one game in a three-game series at North Florida over the weekend. The Owls split a doubleheader with the Ospreys on Saturday, falling 2-1 in game one, before rebounding for a 4-3 win in game two. KSU then fell 4-2 in the series finale on Sunday. Senior
Jensen Hackett (Tunnell Hill, Ga./Ringgold HS) led the KSU offense with a .571 batting average in the series, including a 4-for-4 performance plus a run and an RBI in the Owls’ 4-3 win.
The NCAA released its second RPI of the season on Monday, with the Owls coming in at No. 52 in the ranking. Kennesaw State is the third highest ranked team in the A-Sun, only trailing USC Upstate (37) and Jacksonville (44).
Senior
Sharon Swanson (Canton, Ga./Cherokee HS) leads the KSU attack with a .365 batting average, and has registered 42 hits, 24 RBI and seven home runs this season. Junior
Sara Sikes (Douglasville, Ga./Georgia) has also chipped in 42 hits, including a team-high 11 doubles and two triples, and owns a .353 batting average for the Owls.
Junior
Amanda Henderson (Covington, Ga./Eastside HS) continues to lead the Owls in the circle. She owns a 1.03 ERA in 122.2 innings of work and is 14-2 on the season. Henderson leads the conference with 153 strikeouts.
Florida Gulf Coast (26-13, 7-4 A-Sun), the 2012 Atlantic Sun Conference regular season and tournament champions, are coming off a 2-1 weekend at Mercer on April 6-7. The Eagles started off the three-game series with a 7-6 loss in game one, before taking the next two games, 12-5 and 15-7.
Kelsey Carpenter leads FGCU with a .358 batting average and has collected a team-leading 39 hits and 38 runs this season. Chelsea Zgrabik, the 2013 Preseason A-Sun Player of the Year, has a .355 batting average this season and has contributed 39 hits, while also leading the team with 51 RBI, 14 home runs and nine doubles.
In the circle FGCU is led by Amanda Josie and Shelby Morgan, who each own a 2.94 ERA this season. Josie is 7-2 with 17 strikeouts in 81.0 innings, while Morgan is 12-6 with 55 strikeouts in 107.0 innings.
Kennesaw State next travels to Deland, Fla., for a three-game series against Stetson on Saturday and Sunday, April 13-14. The Owls and the Hatters will play a doubleheader on Saturday, followed by a single game on Sunday. First pitch for both days is set for 1 p.m.
