BOX SCORE (XML) | BOX SCORE (PDF)Kennesaw, Ga. – The Kennesaw State volleyball team finished their 2013 season by losing to the Georgia Bulldogs 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-14).

"It's always sad when a season comes to an end," head coach
Keith Schunzel said. "It's especially hard when you're part of a team with such a great group of young women. While this season had its fair share of adversity as we battled injuries, good wins and some tough losses, we never hung our heads, we stuck together, and we fought all year long, and for that I'm extremely proud. Success is measured in many ways and this team continued to get better and improve as the season went on. I'm so proud of the way that we carried ourselves, and how well we represented Kennesaw State."

It was the Bulldogs senior day and before the match they honored the four Kennesaw State seniors,
Camille Pedraza,
Emily Bean,
Sara Metroka, and
Aneisha Christie, by giving them roses and congratulating them on their great volleyball careers that includes having the school's all-time leaders in assists, digs, aces and matches played.

"The four seniors have laid a terrific foundation for the rest of our returning players to build on," Schunzel said. "I've never been more confident that this program is on the right track. We will win here and we will win big, and that's an exciting thing to be a part of."

Kelly Marcinek finished the match with her second straight double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs to cap one of the most successful freshman campaigns in Kennesaw State history.

The first set was tightly contested and the Owls had a lot of success setting
Cierra Royster and
Megan McGuinness up the middle as both had four kills in the set. With the Owls down 7-6, Emily Bean picked up a kill to even the score at seven. Down 20-14 in the first set, Pedraza was serving and sparked a 6-0 run by the Owls to get within one point at 20-19 forcing Georgia to take a timeout. Despite fighting back, the Owls would end up losing the first set 25-20.

Early in the second set,
Toure Hopkins had a kill to bring the score to 8-7, but UGA would go on a run right after that and would end up winning the set 25-12.

In the middle of the third set with Metroka serving, the Owls would go on a three-point run behind two kills from
Fanise Cannon. Despite the run, the Bulldogs would win the third set and close out the match.

Kennesaw State finishes the year with a 13-17 record.
