KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State baseball team is set to host maybe its biggest weekend series of its season as it takes on Belmont with first place in the Atlantic Sun Conference on the line starting on Friday night. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Kennesaw State (24-16, 10-5 A-Sun) is coming into this weekend’s series on a hot streak winning five of its last six games, including two non-conference wins this week over Jacksonville State and Mercer. The Owls offense has been a big contributor to this recent hot streak as KSU has averaged over nine runs a game in its last six contests.

Junior catcher Ronnie Freeman is also finding his grove at the plate at the right time for the Owls as he is hitting .474 (9-for-19) with four runs scored over his last four games. Freeman is now third in the A-Sun in total hits with 53 and fourth in RBI’s with 40.

This weekend’s matchup is a classic case of strength vs. strength as Kennesaw State leads the A-Sun in team batting with an average of .299, while Belmont (26-14, 11-4 A-Sun) leads the conference in team pitching with an ERA of 3.28.

The Black and Gold hold an 11-8 edge in the all-time series, but the Bruins took three out of four from KSU last season.

Friday night’s game will feature two of the top starting pitchers in the A-Sun. KSU’s Josh Carr leads the conference in wins with eight, and is in the top-10 in ERA at 3.03, while BU’s Chase Brookshire is fourth in the A-Sun in ERA at 2.18 and seventh in opponent batting average as hitters are only posting a .225 clip against him.

The Black and Gold will also throw Zak Griffith on Saturday and Kevin Kyle on Sunday to wrap up the series.

Saturday and Sunday’s matinees are scheduled for 2 p.m. and 1: p.m., respectively and the first 250 fans to arrive to Friday night’s game will receive a free Black KSU Pennant.
