KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women’s tennis team stretched its winning streak to four to start the 2011 season on Friday afternoon as they beat Young Harris, 7-0, in the morning session and came back out in the afternoon to take down previously undefeated Presbyterian, 6-1.
Friday’s results improve the Owls to 4-0 on the season, while the losses drop Young Harris to 0-3 and Presbyterian to 3-1, respectively.
Kennesaw State came roaring out of the gates against Young Harris as the Black and Gold didn’t lose a single game in doubles action winning all three matches 8-0.
In singles play, four Owls pitched 6-0, 6-0 shutouts in their respective matches including junior
Vera Shkundina in the No. 1 spot and senior
Ayano Tanaka in the No. 4 position.
In the second match of the doubleheader, Kennesaw State got doubles victories from senior
Agatha Palider and sophomore
Therese Lagerkvist at the No. 2 spot, 8-0, and junior
Morgan Carney and freshman
Alexandra Apostu in the No. 3 position, 8-5.
The Black and Gold coasted in singles action losing only one match to Presbyterian on their way to a 6-1 win.
Apostu continued a streak of her own on Friday afternoon as her four victories push her undefeated streak to eight, moving her to 8-0 for her collegiate career.
Carney also notched her first singles win of the season against Presbyterian’s Lindsay Krause 6-0, 6-1.
Kennesaw State will play the second half of their four-match weekend in Montgomery, Ala. on Saturday morning starting with Alabama State at 9 a.m.
